Best of Kevin’s bubble - May 2026
Hello there,
Nice to have you here again. This month I once more found a bunch of gems in my feed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did 😊
Music
This month we’ve also been to the concert of a Ukrainian Band called DakhaBrakha. The concert as just pure art. If you want to get a feeling for what I mean just listen to this song and be amazed Baby - DakhaBrakha

Artemis II Photo timeline
If you are a space nerd like me then you were probably aware of the Artemis II mission. Here someone took their time to assemble all the photos that were shot during the mission and put them on a timeline, so you can click yourself through from the very start to the end and see what it was like in the rocket and what they saw through the onboard camera. Ultra cool. While we were clicking us through we listened to this wonderful video from Chillhop Space Jazz, in case you also want some appropriate ambience music.
To give you a sneak peek I’ll show you one of my favorite photos. I find that one so fascinating because it highlights in such a good way that the moon is actually just a rock floating in space. And seeing it from that angle is just so fascinating.

“Boy was I wrong about the fediverse”
I found this article on lemmy the other day and I think the author captured perfectly what I love so much about Lemmy and Mastodon. There is no advertisement, there is no people trying to sell you something or building brands. It’s just humans sharing with each other what they are interested in. And that just feels very real and good 😊
Since you arrived - taken
This website shows and explains what it learns about you just from visiting the page. Since recently I started to be more interested in data security and seeing this once more an eye-opener about how much data our devices give away amd how easy that makes it to identify us in a supposedly “anonymous” dataset.
How diamonds are made
Have you ever wondered how diamonds are made? Me neither. Still I was curious when this link popped up in my feed, and I was delighted by the drawings and explanations. Enjoy 😊
Mechanical Pencil
Another marvel of a website. I did already know how a pen works, as I also disabled my fare share of pens. Still I love the animations. It’s just awesome to scroll through and watch. Enjoy 😊
Reach out and say thanks
Kevin Powell is one of the guys that had the biggest impact on me as a frontend engineer. Most of my CSS knowledge comes from his YouTube channel and his newsletter. Reading this article I realized that I didn’t even think that all the AI content also has the side effect of actual content creators having the feeling it doesn’t make sense anymore. Which is of course quite sad to hear, especially since I specifically try to not avoid AI generated content as good as I can. I will certainly try to give more props to the creators I love, hoping that I can give them back the motivation boost they give me when I consume their content 😊
AI assisted engineers are burning out, is this fine?
There is a specific part that quite spoke to me
Artists enjoy painting, not just exhibiting them. Writers enjoy writing, not just publishing or signing copies. And programmers enjoy programming! Not just deploying a product.
That is actually something I also already told my superiors, that against some assumptions, releasing new features is not why I am software engineer. It is the engineering itself that is fun to me.
The article is very long, and I wouldn’t say that it suddenly solves all problems around AI related burn-out, but I still like that they are trying, so give it a read if you can spare some time.
Books
I actually did discover BookWyrm this month, which is a GoodRead alternative. I do track there what I am reading and do occasionally also write reviews there, so check it out if you are interested in what other people are reading. It is decentralized and uses the same technology as Mastodon and Lemmy, which means there is not just one website. The server I joined is wyrms.de, and here you can find my account -> justkevin@wyrms.de 😌
I hope you were able to take some time and click through some of these Links. Have a nice month and see you in July.
Cheers,
Kevin
